Tips on How to Use Contact Lenses

Contact lenses are a great way to avoid the hassle of glasses and still enjoy the sights everyone else does. But not everyone is a pro at using lenses. Here are some tips shared by other contact lens users:

• How do you know if the lens is inside-out?
Place the lens on your finger and see if a cup is formed. If the cup looks like a “U” then the lens is right, if the cup has flared out edges, then it is inside out.

• Always shake the case with your contact lenses before you open it so that the lenses don’t stick to the walls of the case. If you try to pull them out, they may tear.

• Using your index or middle finger to apply will make it easier to insert the lenses in your eye.

• Roll your eyes to help the lens settle before you blink.

• Apply your contact lenses before you apply any makeup.

• Take out your contacts before you remove your makeup and avoid touching your makeup with the lenses.

• ALWAYS wash your hands before you put in or take out your contact lenses because you don’t want to damage your lenses or your eyes with impurities from your hands.

• Do not share your contact lenses with other people because infections can spread.

• Replace your lens case every 3 months.

• Depending on your contact lenses, avoid sleeping with them at night because your eyes need a chance to rest as well.

Using contact lenses is an easy task as long as you follow your doctor’s instructions and these tips. Corrective lenses are intended to make your life easier and not complicate it. So don’t be intimidated by the application process. Anyone can do it.
